From March to June this year, South West Edible Estates delivered the Wester Hailes & Calders Home Grown project to support folk to grow vegetables at home whilst their were locked down by Covid 19. Now that the lockdown is slowly being opened up, we are winding down the Home Grown project and replacing it with the ‘Wester Hailes & Calders Growers’ project. We will still post videos to support those who are growing at home, but we have stopped giving out Starter Packs.
The Wester Hailes & Calders Growers Facebook Group will seek to encourage folk to participate in community growing activities at the community gardens in Clovenstone, Calders, and Murrayburn and Hailesland.
The Community Growers model is part of Edible Estates response to the Scottish Government’s Dignity report. We will grow as a group and the produce will be channeled towards shared community meals and local good causes such as Wester Hailes Eats Together and Wester Hailes Food Bank at Holy Trinity Church. Participants are supported by our community gardener who teaches volunteers how to grow, co-ordinates food production. We are looking forward putting on community meals when it is safe to do so.
If you want to participate in the Community Growers project fill in the form on the right. If you haven’t done so already, please join the Facebook Group – www.facebook.com/groups/westerhailesgrowers
