Edible Estates is an initiative of Re:Solution, an Edinburgh based urban design agency, which specialises in applying best practice in sustainable design as a tool for community regeneration.
At Re:Solution, rather than waiting around for a request to tender to arrive, we tend to get involved in helping conceive and set up new projects and initiatives. We are always looking for new ideas to develop and new communities to work with. Ideally, we like to work directly with community groups, whether these are existing groups or new ones which we help to get established.
What We Do, Have Done & Plan To Do
We tend to get involved in project ideas and methods which aren’t already in the mainstream. We like to find out by doing, applying ourselves to a new problem and finding solutions. Not for us, projects which stall at feasibility stage, if we think something is worth doing, we’ll try our level best to bring it to site.
On this site you’ll find information about our current initiative ‘Edible Estates’. Over the past six years Re:Solution have been involved in researching and promoting best practice in urban greenspace regeneration, and have set up of sixteen community gardens around Edinburgh.
In the coming years, our plans are to begin work on a new initiative to promote the development of ‘Co-housing‘ projects based on the Scandinavian model. You’ll find more information about our past work on the left side menu.
Collaboration
We like to collaborate in terms of who we work for, and who works with us. We have a small team and tend to sub-contract rather than employ. Our initiatives aren’t rocket science, they’re often very simple ideas, but they do take some doing, and that does need a special type of person which is creative, optimistic, determined and believes in what they do.
Likewise we always seek to develop the capacity of client communities to deliver the project for themselves. As the adage goes, “teach a man to fish..”, with the appropriate support and training from us we hope to hand over projects to communities such that they can manage them and make them grow.
