Sunshine On Leith Garden

Sunshine On Leith Gardens was the last ‘community backgreen’ sites developed by Edinburgh Community Backgreens Association before it wound up.  SOL Gardens was instrumental in the development of the Neighbourhood Garden model which Edible Estates now promote in council estates.  Unlike the other fourteen community gardens set-up by ECBA, it was possible to create a pathway into the site which allowed for the Garden to be opened up to the wider community.

The Garden includes a shared tool shed, community orchards set out using the ‘forest gardening’ approach, and 38 raised beds. The site is managed by a Growers Association which is made up of approximately 40 members which live at the site and in the neighbouring community.

The best way to contact the Garden is through the > SOL Gardens Facebook Page

What is a Neighbourhood Gardens?

We establish community gardens in Council estates which provide a place and activity for people to come together, providing a springboard for other projects in the neighbourhood.
