Lets Grow A Garden Here is a campaign of Edible Estates to instigate a Community Growers project in Leith. It follows on from the Leith & Lochend Home Grown project which supported folk to grow at home during the Covid Lockdown.
Our aspirations are to create a Leith Community Growers Association and work with them to develop new projects in the area. Over the Summer we supported over 100 Leith folk to grow at home during the Lockdown. Our Home Grown Facebook group now has over 300 members.

Leith Community Growers Manifesto
We have prepared a draft Manifesto of ideas we would like to promote.
Support tenement dwellers to work with their neighbours to renovate backgreens into community greenspaces for recreation and growing food. We have done this in the past to create projects like Sunshine On Leith community garden.
Community Market Gardens
Turning over small and large areas of greenspaces on the corners of streets and elsewhere to community growing, producing food for local people.
An extension of the community market garden idea, but folk can spend some time outside of the city on a WWOOFer model at a Community Smallholding outside of city with overnight accommodation.
Community Shop / Cafe
Selling produce from Market garden/s and Smallholding. This might be a new site, or working in collaboration with existing shop or cafe.
Community Orchard & Adopt A Tree
Planting new fruit trees and bushes in public and community spaces. Also caring for the existing street trees.
Volunteer Blitz Team & Tool Library
Group of volunteers who would come together to help clear/establish new community growing spaces.
Local Food Themed Workshops/Events
Regular Community Meals with the produce we’ve grown
Perhaps monthly community meals, with a bit of music/entertainment to bring folk together, obviously a bit of an aspirational post-covid idea this one!
