Community Backgreens

Between 2004 & 2012, Edinburgh Community Backgreens Association, ECBA supported tenement dwellers to work with their neighbours to establish community gardens in their tenement backgreens.  Over the eight years, we helped set up fifteen ‘community backgreen’ projects in Gorgie Dalry, Leith and Marchmont.  Unfortunately the organisation was wound up in 2012 through lack of funding.

ECBA’s model of working in tenemental areas was inspired by research of the Yard Association’s of Copenhagen, which contributed to the regeneration of neighbourhoods such as Norrebro in the city centre.
